  Teaching Math in Kindergarten: Numbers and 

       Number Sense Activities

Race to Trace is a great partner game.  Students take turns rolling a die and tracing that number.  When all numbers have been traced, count how many you have in your color and see who wins!

A Fun Food Activity for Kids – Sorting Shapes

Shapes are one of many basic concepts children needs to learn in preschool. While they may seem basic, shapes are really very important. 

Today I told my students to bring different shapes of food items. Children were able to learn  about the different shapes as well as have a fun  filled time.

Math: Comparing Volume – measurement  

I filled various plastic containers with exactly 2 cups of water each.  Then I brought them outside and let the kids add food coloring to each one .  Next I asked them to tell me which container they thought held the most water.  Most of them guessed it to be the container with blue water.
 We took turns pouring the water into the measuring cup. They were surprised to discover that each container held exactly the same amount.

 I taught them the word volume — and together we talked about how a liquid takes the shape of its container.  Two containers can hold the same amount of liquid – but it looks different depending on how wide or tall the container is.
