       NAME ACTIVITIES

These are some of my favorite activities for teaching young children how to recognize their names in the beginning of the school year.
Some of the activities included here will help children learn to identify their own names, and others will help them learn to identify the names of their classmates too. Both types of activities offer opportunities for learning letters in ways that are fun and meaningful.

We have 4 pocket charts in our classroom that the students can visit. They are:
  • ABC Pocket Chart
  • Nursery Rhyme Pocket Chart: Changes every two weeks with our Nursery Rhyme
  • I Can Read Pocket Chart: Changes throughout the year as we learn to read
  • Colors Pocket Chart

Sight Word Literacy Station Activities

Kinesthetic  Sight Words

Not all students learn the same way, and some need to feel the words to learn them.  Add some fine sand into a pencil box and give them an un-sharpened pencil.  They can trace the sight words in the sand!  And the pencil box keeps the sand neat and tidy!

Fine Motor Sight Words

Students use plastic tweezers to place small puff-balls to

make their sight words.  Those pincher muscles are extremely

important for their fine motor development to help with

handwriting.

Sight Words with Letter Tiles

Students use letter tiles to build a sight word

and then a wipe-off marker to write it!
